FAQ
Can keto help me lose weight?
Yes, keto can help you lose weight by putting your body into a state of ketosis. Ketosis is a natural metabolic state in which your body burns fat for fuel instead of carbohydrates. When your body is in ketosis, it becomes more efficient at burning both dietary and stored body fat for energy, which leads to weight loss.
How do I know if I'm in ketosis?
There are several ways to measure ketosis, but blood or urine testing is the most common. Blood testing is the most accurate way to measure ketosis. Urine testing is slightly less accurate but much more convenient. Given the tools above for measuring ketosis, assuming you're using our scientifically formulated ready meals, snacks and supplements, it is 99.9% likely that you are in a state of ketosis. Indicators of ketosis include increased energy, reduced appetite, improved mental clarity and, last but not least, weight loss.
Can I have coffee or tea on the keto diet?
You can have coffee, tea or any 0-calorie beverages on the keto diet. However, we recommend avoiding adding sugar or other sweeteners to your coffee or tea.
What can I snack on while following the keto diet?
There are many keto-friendly snacks that you can enjoy while following the keto diet; check out our snacking range for some delicious keto-friendly snacks. Some good options include nuts, seeds, cheese, hard-boiled eggs, low-sugar whey or casein protein shakes, low-sugar Greek yoghurt, and beef jerky, to name a few; generally speaking; ensure there are little to no carbohydrates in any of your snacking choices. More info on what you can and can't have can be found here.
Can I have fruit on the keto diet?
You can have fruit on the keto diet, but we recommend consuming low-sugar fruits such as berries (strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, etc.), rhubarb, lemons and limes. Fruits high in sugar, such as bananas, mangoes, grapes and pineapples, are best avoided while following the general keto diet; they can still be consumed pre or post-exercise strictly; this variation of eating (also known as the "Targeted Keto Diet") is recommended among athletes or highly active individuals, in which 50g of carbohydrates are consumed around the exercise window.
What kind of results can I expect from following the keto diet?
Every individual is different. Therefore, results will vary from person to person. However, some expected results people experience while following the keto diet include increased energy levels, improved mental clarity, reduced inflammation and significant weight loss; most customers have noticed up to 4kg of weight loss in the first week alone!
Can I exercise while following the keto diet?
Yes, you can exercise while following the keto diet, although it heavily depends on your exercise type. For example, an activity that consists of many high-intensity bursts, such as sprinting or explosive weight training, is advised against, as those movements are heavily dependent on carbs. This is especially true during the initial stages of ketosis, in which your body begins adapting to burning fat for fuel instead of carbs.
So, what type of exercise do you recommend while in ketosis?
You are the ideal candidate for keto if you do a lot of aerobic, low-intensity exercise (such as walking). If you think about it, most of us have kilograms and kilograms of stored energy in body fat. When we are in a state of ketosis, our body is vastly more efficient at burning this stored fat for fuel. This carries over perfectly when we do low-intensity physical activity. A study on world-class endurance athletes concluded that the body's ability to burn fat dramatically improves during this exercise. (1)
Considering this, we always recommend you consult a doctor or certified nutritionist/dietitian before starting any new exercise regime.
